If you’ve been on the internet lately, you’ve likely signed up for a social media account. That means you’re busy creating graphics for posts along with videos, reels, stories, and more.
While all of these things are important tools for marketing your businesses on social media, I’m going to focus on the graphics for it.
Good graphics on social help strengthen your reputation and increase awareness for your brand. They also can make you more memorable and that means you’re a lot more likely to get hired.
Know the audience you are going to be talking to. Every marketing campaign needs to have a specific audience. This will help you create text and images that will appeal to them. Be clear about what the goal is for the design. Is it to educate your audience? To sell them something or to thank them? and what the next steps are to be. Make sure the graphic has a focal point that reinforces your message and is in line with your brand’s style. I highly recommend unique drawings, icons, and photos versus stock photos. Stock photos don’t help you stand out enough anymore. Hire a photographer or if you have some photography skills use your smartphone to take a few brand-centric photos that you can use to share your message.
Social media graphics are small and usually square, keep the graphic simple and don’t feel like you have to crowd every inch of it with text and images. Leave some room for things to breathe, this white space keeps the viewer from being overwhelmed and will help them understand your message more clearly.
A fun thing you can do with social media graphics is to create a carousel of images that stitch together and share the information a little bit at a time. This allows you more room for information, plus it engages your audience so they interact with your content, which will help them remember you.
One of the most overlooked places for you to use social media graphics is your header. Whether they call it a timeline or a profile, they usually have a header and these headers are a great place to advertise what you do. Yes, even on your personal accounts. Remember people buy from people – especially people they know, like, and trust. This is why the header or banner photos on your personal accounts are a great place to put info about what you do or what your latest offer is about. When you do this you now have an entire group of family, friends, and acquaintances who will know what you do and can either buy from you or refer you.
Social media is a great place to market your business especially since images process 60x faster in the brain than words. Keep in mind your goals, your audience, and create images that are unique and you’ll go far in catching attention!
